Pastor - Rev. Mike Smith
Rev. Michael G. Smith (better known as Bro Mike) became the pastor of Powell's Chapel Baptist Church in January 2007. He came to the church first as an intermin pastor and then accepted a unanimous vote calling him as our bi-vocational pastor. Mike is a native of North Carolina and is a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He has previously served churches in Louisiana, Tennessee and North Carolina. He and his wife Cheryl, and children; Melissa and Aaron, reside in Mt. Juliet. Mike is also a full-time Evangelism & Discipleship Specialist at Lifeway Christian Resources in Nashville. Minister of Youth
Tate Sykes, our Minister of Youth was hired in May, 2009. Tate, who works for the Middle Tennessee Youth for Christ, graduated from MTSU. He was recently married in June of this year and he and his wife, Destiny reside in Murfreesboro.
Minister of Music
Jon Hawkins, our Minister of Music came to Powell's Chapel Baptist Church in 1998. He had previously been at Living Springs Baptist Church and spent his childhood years at LaVergne Baptist Church where he was active in all aspects of the music program. He has a Bachelor of Music w/emphasis in Music Education from MTSU. Jon works for Suntrust Bank as a Trainer. He and his wife, Bethany and children Michael, Emma and Nicholas reside in Murfreesboro. Deacons
Gerry Short grew up at Powell's Chapel Baptist Church. He became a deacon in 2000. He is employed at Bridgestone. He and his wife Patty and their sons Tyler and Trenton reside in Smyrna. Todd Prewitt, Vice Chairman of the Deacons, became a deacon five years ago. He and his wife, Tonjia and son Mitchell reside in Murfreesboro. Their son Cory, currently a student at MTSU and daughter, Michelle (Brian) Watson all attend our church. They have two grandchildren, Austin and Caleb.
Jeff Haynes, a deacon since 1988, is a realtor for Bob Parks Realty. He and his wife, Eyvonne reside in Murfreesboro. They have two daughters, Andrea (Jeremy) Morris and Jennifer (Butch) Oliver. Lynn Phillips, Chairman of the Deacons, grew up at Powell's Chapel Baptist. He is currently self employed. He and his wife, Cindy reside in Murfreesboro. Their children Brad and Beth (Adam) Wilcox are also members of our church.
Larry Wrather grew up at Powell's Chapel Baptist. He and his wife, Donna, reside in Murfreesboro and have three sons, Scott (Melody), Chris (Sally) and Lance. They have five grandchildren, Wesley, Blake, Holly, Sarah and Mary Beth,
Pat Ryan became a deacon of PCBC in 2004. He currently works for Bushhog as a District Representative. He and his wife, Gayle reside in Murfreesboro and have one daughter, Jessica who is also a member of our church.
Andrew Robertson is one of our newest deacons. He was ordained on Jan. 11, 2009. Andrew and his wife Peggy live in Smyrna. Peggy is a school teacher in Metro nashville. Their daughter Jessica, and grandchildren Bryce and Haley also attend our church.
Ronald Dowdy is also a new deacon. He was also ordained on Jan. 11, 2009. He and his wife Eleanor have been longtime members of our church. They reside in Murfreesboro and have two children, Sherri and Ronnie and one grandson Thomas and a granddaughter Christy. Eleanor is a school teacher in Smyrna and Ronald is retired from the Tennessee Army Guard.
Bruce Short, Deacon Emertis, has spent most of his life at Powell's Chapel Baptist. He and his wife, Mary Alice reside in Smyrna. They have three sons, Sammy (Joy) , Gerry (Patty) and Dwayne. They have seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
